Travel back to one of the most dramatic chapters of Florida’s past—the Second Seminole War! Experience history brought to life through a fascinating short film and an unforgettable live portrayal of Major General Thomas Sydney Jesup by Dick Kazmar, who has embodied this historical figure for years at reenactments.

Following the film, enjoy a lively discussion with three passionate history keepers—Dick Kazmar, Derek Hankerson, and Laurie Corry—as they share stories of war, resilience, and the lasting legacy of Florida’s Seminole history.

Meet the Presenters:
Derek Hankerson – Historian, filmmaker, and president of the Loxahatchee Preservationists Board. Derek directed the Second Seminole War documentary and has spent his career uncovering “unknown American history stories,” from the Underground Railroad to Fort Mose and the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor.

Dick Kazmar – President of the Loxahatchee Preservationists Board and longtime battlefield docent. Since 2017, Dick has brought Major General Jesup to life in reenactments of the Battle of the Loxahatchee, fueled by his passion for preserving history. A retired aerospace engineer, he now dedicates his energy to honoring Florida’s past.

Laurie Corry – Historian, preservationist, and world traveler with a passion for Native American and Indigenous cultures. Laurie has served on the Loxahatchee Preservationists Board since 2013 and continues to champion education and cultural heritage preservation.
