Travel and Safety Tips

Nature is fragile; treat her with respect and care.:
On the beaches:

  • Please take your trash and waste with you when leaving an area. Unfortunately, we have not yet taught it to swim or find its own way to a trash receptacle.
  • The Sabellariid Worm Reef at Bathtub Beach Park is a world class living reef system. Please respect the homes of the millions of tiny worms that make up this natural marvel and not walk on, or mark up the reef.
  • Some marine life can bite, sting or otherwise make for a bad day. Please be certain that you know what you are touching or picking up.
  • All of our natural critters are very well fed by Mother Nature. Please do not upset their diets or their attitudes by feeding them.
  • Always swim where there is lifeguard protection. Observe all beach condition flags. We want you to be able to come back and enjoy the beaches again.
  • Sea turtles have been on the planet for millions of years (we have not). Be cautious around sea turtle nests on the beach during sea turtle nesting season.

Boating, Fishing, Diving and Watersports are our specialty
Boating and Waterways:

  • Please observe all posted markers and buoys in channels and waterways. Tow services can be expenses if you go aground.
  • Always wear a PFD on board while underway. It makes it easier to find you when you fall overboard.
  • Maintain posted speeds in Manatee zones. The do not like to race.
  • Do not go out the St. Lucie Inlet if you have ANY doubt about its safety based on the size of your vessel. In this case size does matter.
  • If fishing, be aware of all size regulations and open and closed seasons for various species.
  • ALWAYS be aware of dive flags that may be flying from other boats both inshore and offshore.

Help us insure that you have a problem free stay
Your personal well being:

  • Keep your keys, credit cards, passport and cell phone with you. If outdoors, carry them in a waterproof compartment or bag.
  • Time flies when you are having rum; however, do not let time fly TOO fast. Our jails are not 5-star resorts.
  • The Florida sun is hot, use an appropriate sun screen. The only thing we like baked is Snapper and Mahi-Mahi.
  • We have not yet conquered the Mosquito. Use bug spray, especially in the evenings, if you tend to be a Mosquito magnet.
  • If you are temporarily “misplaced” ask for directions. We are more than happy to help. Maps and guides are available from the Tourist Information Center in Downtown Stuart.
  • Stay abreast of the weather forecast. It can change as quickly as in New England.

Stay healthy and make your experience enjoyable by using the following simple steps:

  • Use bug repellent, sun screen and be aware of possible allergies in select seasons
  • Remember to hydrate your body drink lots of water
  • Stay tuned with the weather and carry an umbrella or rain poncho in rainy season
  • Stop by the Tourist Information Center for maps, guides and brochures
  • Most importantly don’t forget to have fun and bring your camera to capture your memories for years to come.
